7th Grade Writer's Workshop: Among other styles of writing, we will be covering persuasion, poetry, narrative, descriptive, and formal writing.

8^th Grade ALPs: Units of study – Autobiography, ISTEP review, environment, American Indians, Holocaust, justice, and the Civil War. Several of these units will be in conjunction with social studies.

8th Grade English: Units of study – Autobiography, ISTEP review, justice, Holocaust, and The Outsiders.

7^th Grade English: Not teaching this year.

About Mrs. Giddens

This is my eighth year teaching, although only the sixth here at Batchelor. I actually started my teaching career at Batchelor with student teaching under Sharon Finley, the English teacher in the Challenge Team. After that, I spent a year at Tri-North, then a year at Bloomington South, which brought me back to Batchelor. Originally, I am from a suburb of Ft. Wayne, but came to Indiana University, fell in love with this town and stayed. My husband and I have four pets – three cats and a dog. We are also new parents to a rambunctious little boy – Benjamin Atticus – who was born in 2005.

As for my classroom, I have a fairly decent collection of books that the students are more than welcome to borrow. I ask that you take interest in anything they read and encourage them in any way you can. Reading is such an important part of the development of our students.
